There is a feeling among many non-dualists that we should not concern ourselves with the injustices in the world. If this life is a dream of sorts, why take action?
I don’t feel this way.
As many of you know, even if you don’t live in the U.S., we are experiencing an unprecedented series of illegal actions and atrocities by our own government. As a compassionate human we are compelled to take some kind of action to protect our communities and to stand by those who cannot protect themselves.
We do not control what others do in this world, however we do have reign over our responses.
Today I marched in the “No Kings” protest in the Phoenix Civic Center. I have been in several protests over many years, and for many (and myself) it was a reminder that as we take action out of compassion and for the liberty of others, we are a forceful power of love in our cities, states and our country.
Greed, bigotry and power hungry forces come and go but the peaceful actions of the thoughtful and compassionate people of the world cannot be underestimated. It is fueled by love and love is the most powerful force in the universe.
We all have this force within us and we share it in so many ways. Art, music, speech and creative expressions of every kind. It is all peaceful action. It doesn’t require anything of us but to follow our heart, use our gifts and shine our light when we sense darkness.
Tomorrow I will redirect my attention to my music projects and continue to use what gifts I have to give.
Acceptance, and thoughtful action is the power of love.
