It seems that as humans, we are granted the illusion of control. At times we really do believe we can see our future. We weave our past into stories that we can make sense out of even if the facts need to be altered at bit.
It seems that we do this to fill the need to understand or unlock the mystery of our own lives. Seemingly random things happen but the frantic need to know creates a space for them in this puzzle of life.
We may briefly cross paths with someone, loose track of them for years, yet think about them frequently. Why do we do this? Because it is an unresolved mystery. We don’t know why the paths crossed and we don’t believe in anything happening without a good reason.
As we age, we begin to see our lives as chapters of a book. We connect them but any events in our book could be placed into the middle of someone else’s book, and should they believe the event happened, they would find a way to weave it seamlessly into the story of their life.
I’m not suggesting that there is no plan. Just that it isn’t drawn by the human mind and can not be deciphered by the mind. We sense that we have something to accomplish in our lifetimes, but because we don’t know what it is, or how to achieve it, we look for it every way we can think of. For some it’s financial gain. Some it’s success in a chosen career. For some it’s raising a family or living a spiritual life. For most everyone it’s a combination of our upbringing and conditioning that drives us toward these goals.
We see progress in the areas we focus on and then believe we are passing this so called game of life, yet if our human brains did not create the design how do we know if we are even on the same train to reach the intended destination?
There are those who are at peace with life. Those who have learned how to allow life events to unfold as they may. Those that have recognized that their value and worth is so much more than anything they could have accomplished in this world. They have let go of the steering wheel, let go of resistance to what “is” and accept “not knowing”.
I’m suggesting here that everyone has access to this if they are able to accept life as the mystery that it is. Unknown by the thinking mind, yet understood by intuition. Understood in the deeper levels of the heart because love is the only real universal understanding. Unconditional love of the purest kind. The sun gives life to everything on earth but asks for nothing in return. Our bodies heal themselves even as we abuse them. Plants give us air to breath and we supply the carbon dioxide for them in return. All these things just happen. Not out of any plan we made or even an understanding of how these things are possible.
So if there is anything we can actually know in our lifetimes it is the power of love. Nurturing this deep within ourselves naturally creates an overflow into the lives of others.
Just perhaps these are the only mysteries we need to unravel. Dropping the need to know, and giving birth to unconditional love within ourselves.
Paul
