Those of you who are not familiar with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy series will not likely know who Baby Groot is, so let me give you a quick background.
Baby Groot is a small tree stump. The larger Groot was killed in the first movie and Baby was grown from one of his stems. (Bear with me here)
The Guardians are interstellar misfits that see themselves as heroes, trying to fix whatever wrongdoing is happening in the Universe and though most of them have very worldly concerns, Baby Groot appears unaffected by any of it.
The initial credit sequence shows everything you need to know about Baby Groot and I would encourage you to watch this first.
Here’s a few things you may notice about Baby Groot. Even while there is complete chaos going on, his first effort is to get some music going and start dancing. There seems to be no concern for everything going on around him, even if it puts him in harms way. He is completely in the moment! He can get distracted, however after chasing a lizard of some sort he gets tossed directly into the field of monsters, explosions and tumbles through it. He then gets up, brushes off his sleeves and begins to dance again.
Groot is pretty much living a non-duality life. Events happen and he doesn’t resist. He falls, he gets back up. There is no judgement in anything he does and he reacts authentically. When one of the Guardians get tossed into the speakers and stops the music, Baby Groot gets angry. There is no reluctance to get angry and while you might criticize the way he deals with it, it is still 100 percent authentic.
The music playing is one of my favorite happy songs and reflects Groot’s unwavering joy of living.
Accessing this kind of joy amidst all the turbulence of life is a foundation and result of living your authentic self. The deep understanding that if you see life for all the joy and beauty it holds while accepting that it is also unbound it it’s darker realms, you live completely free.
Be like Groot!
