This word “Awakening” has become almost as distorted as the word “Love”. The most common belief is that there is some boundry between the unconciouss dream state of living and the awakened self.
This over simplification is causing confusion and may even draw people away from the process of self realization.
The word can be used to signify belief in a certain conspiracy theory or not. Even political views are catagorized this way.
In spiritual terms, it is mostly indentified with enlightenment. The realization of ones true self. The recognition that we are not seperate and our traditional ideas of believing we are our thoughts, feelings and emotions describe our sensations, not who (or what) we are.
The journey toward self realization is very rarely sudden however. There may be glimses, or visions of the truth but these prove temporary and belong in the realm of experiences. People who have experienced a complete shift into self realization soon realize that this is not the end. It simply opens one up to go deeper. Some do and some don’t.
The process of awakening seems to have only one barrier and that is to believe you are awake. This is not as simple a block as it seems. Once one believes they are awake or awakened, they have only just stepped into the process. The very thought that you are awake is dualistic. It implies that you have reached some level beyond what someone else has. In dualistic thinking there are always levels, catagories and little boxes to put things in. Within a fully realized person, none of this is true.
The reality is that we are all born awakened. Our conditioning, opinions, beliefs and fears create barriers or veils to blinds us from the truth of our true selves. The process of awakening slowly peels back each layer, revealing more and more truth.
This is not “knowledge” in the traditional sense, but rather the deep acceptance that knowing anything is not needed. Security is not needed. Unraveling the mystery of your life is not needed. Rather the acceptance of not knowing takes one closer to home.
Your true self is divine. It is the author of your life. Each chapter is intended to bring you home. Each failure, a potential for growth. Your own evolution toward the authentic self is written into each moment. Intuition, and the innate ability to discern if your actions are of love, or otherwise, are gifts. Gifts you may use or dismiss. As we learn to trust these gifts, we expand our conciousness. We empty ourselves little by little of the preconceived notions that keep us from moving forward.
As we begin to view everything through the eyes of love, we see a different world. We expand our universe. We begin to realize that we are reborn each day and the choice to drag the past with us is useless, even detrimental.
The process of true self realization may take time, but living with love, compassion and truth in each moment takes “time” out of the equation. The path is joyful even when the circumstances of life are not.
So let’s not seek awakening and simply walk the path home.
Walking with you,
Paul
