It’s interesting that in the spiritual world, everyone seems to be looking to the external for guidance, direction and validation. This is because this is how we have always operated in the world. Learning at school, learning from parents, friends and associates.
The problem is, that is all head knowledge. Useful in a practical way and to support survival, but not so effective to expand your conciousness and experience your true self. That search is only from within.
Though most religions are a response to this desire to know yourself completely, many of them further separate you from “God”, or the Divine. You have heard the term “mere mortal”. You have been instructed to “praise God”. Pray for redemption, forgiveness of your sins.
I’m going to offer another way of experiencing divinity. A way in which you are not separate but rather an expression of it.
Imagine the SUN. It contains vast energy, warmth, light and provides life to everything on the planet. It asks nothing of us yet provides everything we need. Now take a piece of cardboard, poke many small holes in it and hold it up to the sun. Several beams of light will spread onto the ground illuminating specific areas.
This is the relationship I’m suggesting is between God, The Divine, The Universe, Source…(whatever you choose to call it) and us. We are the beams of light. That light is pure expanding love. We have the capasity and the potential to shine this love onto everything and everyone we come in contact with.
You can only do so however if you know yourself to be that light. Know that you are not separate from it.
The only thing that keeps us from realizing this is that we were told we are separate selves and we’ve spent our lives trying to further individualize ourselves. The result of this creates judgement, fear, conflict with others and our environment and a thirst for rising above, gaining power and status over others.
These traits shade the light from within. If we are not giving just as the SUN or Source does, without expectation of anything in return, our light is dim.
If we take this concept deeply within, and recognize that we were always this light, then our days are about expansion and growth and exposing this light and love from within. Then we are no longer separate from Source, but part of it. A source that needs nothing, holds unlimited energy, light and love.
Shine on! You are the SUN!
Paul
