Have you ever noticed that sometimes you come across people who just emit this kind of warmth and acceptance? If you have, you may have also noticed how you become completely disarmed by them. These are people who are living closer to the heart. Their genuine response to life is love, forgiveness, kindness and compassion. These are the traits and expressions of the heart.
When you live in this way, the world looks very different to you. People are all of a sudden more open, friendlier and at ease. Your expressions of the heart infected them. Or maybe a better term would be opened them.
These gifts of the heart are our birthrights. They live within us all. It is only fear, or the thinking mind that keeps them under wraps.
For many years I worked in customer service. I guess I stayed in it because I realized that if you treat everyone with kindness and respect, you can diffuse any anger or confusion. In this day and age, the vast majority of people do not feel seen or heard. This would be a tragedy if it were not for the fact that each of us has the ability to change that for everyone we come in contact with.
We may have difficulty seeing another persons point of view, but we recognise that we are responsible for clarifying, asking questions, listening closely even beyond the facts or language and “hear” how they feel. That is something we can understand and relate to.
Our true self is the physical manifestation of the divine. This means we are in essence unconditional love. Thoughts, negative experiences, preset beliefs, these are all blockades to this kind of love. And I say “this kind” because many people use the term love but it is love with conditions. Transactional. I will love you as long as you… This is not love in any sense.
I’ve always felt that compassion was to doorway to unconditional love. In our human form, we have all suffered. Maybe physically, maybe emotionally and maybe just by virtue of taking our own thoughts and our own lives too seriously. Either way, if you have suffered, you have within you the capacity to understand another’s suffering. You are united in this way and in the end…we are all united. One consciousness shared by all. We are that unconditional love. Let’s live closer to the heart!
With recognition of the love that you are,
Paul
